There’s nothing better than hopping into a warm bed on a chilly night, especially if you're managing incontinence and want to feel extra comfortable. But when it comes to using Conni Bed Pads or Mattress Protectors with electric blankets, we want to be upfront: generally we don’t recommend it.

Here’s Why
While it might seem safe to place a waterproof layer between your electric blanket and Bed Pad, the reality is a bit more complicated. Even the best waterproof sheet can move or shift during the night. If any moisture makes its way to the electric blanket, it could lead to electric shock, serious injury or worse. Certification Body Australia also recommend against using a mattress protector with an Electric Blanket
Because electric blankets are, by nature, electrical devices, they must not come into contact with liquids. And since Conni products are designed to absorb moisture, the risk of fluid exposure is always present, particularly in overnight or heavy leak situations. It’s a risk we simply don’t want you to take.

What We Suggest Instead
If you’re looking for warmth, here are some other safe, non-electric alternatives like:
- Heat bags or heat packs
- Extra layers of blankets
- Warm pyjamas and socks
These options can keep you cosy without compromising your safety.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use an electric blanket under a Conni Bed Pad or Mattress Protector?
We strongly advise against it. Electric blankets should never be exposed to liquid.
Please check your electric blanket instructions for more information
What if I use a waterproof sheet over the electric blanket?
Even then, we don’t recommend it. If the sheet or bed pad shifts, fluid could still find its way to the electric device.
Is it okay to use a hot water bottle or heat bag instead?
Yes! These are great alternatives. Just make sure your hot water bottle is sealed properly and not leaking.
What’s the best way to stay warm while still using a Conni Bed Pad or Mattress Protector?
Try layering up with extra blankets, wearing warm pyjamas or using a heat bag. These options are safe, effective and won’t harm your Conni products.
At Conni, we design our products to offer reliable protection and peace of mind. But when it comes to electric blankets, safety must come first. The potential risk of moisture reaching electrical components mean we simply can’t recommend using them together.
For warmth, we suggest safe alternatives like heat packs, warm layers or extra blankets.
