May is Chron’s and Colitis Awareness month and serves as a platform to open the discussion about these two common Irritable Bowel Diseases. By raising awareness and sharing information, the Conni team hopes to gain a greater understanding of these conditions and the impact it has on our customers’ lives.
According to Chron’s and Colitis Australia, Chron’s Disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that can cause inflammation anywhere in the digestive system from the mouth to the anus and the inflammation can appear in patches. Ulcerative Colitis, on the other hand, causes inflammation and ulceration in the colon and rectum where the inflammation will spread continuously.
People with either Chron’s or Ulcerative Colitis experience symptoms of abdominal pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, blood in their stools (poo) and bloating. One of the main differences between the two diseases is the pain experienced by individuals with Chron’s can be felt throughout the entire abdomen.
Healthline suggests it is believed that a loss of certain gut bacteria partially contributes to diseases such as Chron’s and Ulcerative Colitis. This gives way to treatment options involving diet and a focus on gut health. However, some medications and even surgery may be required.
The Conni range of products, in particular our Reusable Bed and Chair Pads and the Conni Pull-Ons, can undoubtedly assist with the management of bowel disorders.
In addition, the Conni Reusable Underwear range offers a discreet and effective solution for protecting against small bowel voids.
